About This Tour

There are golf tours, and then there is this.

Sandy's Safaris' Highlights of South Africa is the ultimate bucket-list golf and safari experience - a 14-night fully escorted journey that takes you from the energy of Johannesburg to the raw wilderness of Kruger National Park and finally to the breathtaking beauty of Cape Town. Three iconic regions, six world-class courses, six safaris, and experiences that simply cannot be replicated anywhere else on earth.

It begins in Johannesburg - Africa's most dynamic city - where you'll play The River Club and the legendary Royal Johannesburg, two courses steeped in history and prestige. Then the real adventure begins as you head north into the Greater Kruger, checking into the extraordinary Kruger Shalati - The Train on the Bridge - a boutique hotel built on a vintage train suspended over the Sabie River, where elephants drink below your window and lions roar through the night. There is nowhere else like it in the world.

From Kruger, you'll move to the exclusive Buhala Lodge in Malelane, playing Kambaku and the world-renowned Leopard Creek - consistently ranked among the top courses in Africa, where hippos lounge in the water hazards and crocodiles patrol the banks of the Crocodile River that borders the course. Wildlife and world-class golf, side by side.

Finally, Cape Town - where Pearl Valley, Erinvale, a full Winelands Tour and a Cape Point Day Tour provide the most spectacular finale imaginable to an already extraordinary journey.

Sandy's Safaris has spent over 20 years perfecting every detail of this tour. The relationships, the knowledge, the on-the-ground expertise - it's all there, working quietly in the background to ensure every moment exceeds every expectation.

This is South Africa's greatest golf journey. Fully escorted, impeccably organised, and genuinely life-changing.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Johannesburg | Welcome to South Africa
Your South African adventure begins in Johannesburg - Africa's city of gold, energy, and extraordinary contrasts. Check into the stylish Hyde Hotel in Rosebank, one of Johannesburg's most vibrant and cosmopolitan neighbourhoods, surrounded by world-class restaurants, galleries, and the famous Rosebank Sunday Market. Tonight, join your fellow travellers for registration and welcome drinks as your Sandy's Safaris escort introduces the extraordinary journey that lies ahead. The anticipation in the room will be palpable - and completely justified.
Day 2 - Golf at The River Club | Johannesburg
Your South African golf journey begins at The River Club - a beautifully mature parkland course set along the banks of the Braamfontein Spruit river in one of Johannesburg's most prestigious suburbs. Tree-lined fairways, manicured greens, and a genuine country club atmosphere make this the perfect opening round - welcoming enough to ease you in, challenging enough to sharpen your game for what lies ahead. Golf carts are included throughout.
Day 3 - Golf at Royal Johannesburg | Johannesburg
Today you play one of Africa's most historic and prestigious golf clubs - Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club, founded in 1890 and home to some of the finest parkland golf on the continent. The East Course, which you'll play today, has hosted some of South Africa's most celebrated tournaments and challenged the greatest players in the game. Wide fairways give way to small, subtly contoured greens that demand precision and course management. This is golf with genuine pedigree, played on a course that commands respect. Golf carts are included.
Day 4 - Transfer to Kruger Shalati | Afternoon Game Drive
Today the journey takes a dramatic turn as you transfer from Johannesburg into the heart of one of Africa's greatest wilderness areas - the Kruger National Park. Your destination is unlike anything you've ever experienced: Kruger Shalati - The Train on the Bridge, a boutique hotel built on a restored vintage train suspended 40 metres above the Sabie River on a historic railway bridge. As you arrive and settle into your beautifully appointed train suite, the Kruger reveals itself below - elephants at the river, hippos in the shallows, and a wilderness that stretches to the horizon. This afternoon's game drive is your first taste of what the next three days will deliver.
Day 5 - Golf at Skukuza | Morning & Afternoon Game Drives
Today combines two of life's great pleasures - a morning game drive through the Kruger as the bush comes alive at dawn, followed by a round at Skukuza Golf Course, one of the world's most extraordinary golf experiences. Skukuza sits entirely within the Kruger National Park, meaning wildlife wanders freely across and around the course - warthogs on the fairways, hippos in the water hazards, and the occasional elephant browsing in the rough. There are no fences. This is golf in the wild, in the truest possible sense. Golf carts are included. Return for an afternoon game drive as the golden light of the Kruger falls across the plains.
Day 6 - Full Day at Kruger Shalati | Morning & Afternoon Game Drives
A full day in the Kruger - morning and afternoon game drives with the world's most experienced rangers, searching for the Big Five across one of Africa's most wildlife-rich ecosystems. Between drives, life aboard The Train on the Bridge is extraordinary - the rooftop pool suspended above the Sabie River, the restaurant serving exceptional cuisine, and the constant soundtrack of the African bush surrounding you on all sides. Selected beverages are included throughout your stay. Tonight, fall asleep to the sounds of the wilderness and wake knowing tomorrow brings more.
Day 7 - Transfer to Buhala Lodge | Morning Game Drive
This morning you rise early for one final game drive at Kruger Shalati before transferring via safari vehicle to Buhala Lodge in Malelane - a luxurious private lodge on the southern boundary of the Kruger National Park. Buhala is an intimate, exclusive retreat set in indigenous bush along the Crocodile River, offering a more private and personalised safari experience. Settle in, explore the lodge and its spectacular surroundings, and prepare for two extraordinary days of golf that await - including one of the most famous courses in Africa.
Day 8 - Golf at Kambaku | Buhala Lodge
Today you play Kambaku Golf Course - a spectacular bush course carved through the wilderness of the Greater Kruger, where the line between golf course and game reserve is deliberately blurred. Impala graze the fairways, eagles circle overhead, and the sounds of the African bush accompany every shot. It's a course that demands you stay present - not just for the golf, but because in the Kruger, awareness of your surroundings is always part of the experience. Golf carts are included.
Day 9 - Golf at Leopard Creek | Buhala Lodge
Today is the day every golfer on this tour has been waiting for - a round at Leopard Creek, consistently ranked as the number one golf course in Africa and one of the top courses in the world. Designed by Gary Player and bordering the Kruger National Park along the Crocodile River, Leopard Creek is a course of staggering beauty and genuine championship challenge. Hippos lounge in the water hazards. Crocodiles patrol the riverbanks that define several holes. And the golf itself - sweeping fairways, immaculate greens, and a layout that demands every shot - is simply world-class. The halfway house is included. This is a round you will never, ever forget.
Day 10 - Morning Game Drive | Transfer to Cape Town
Rise early for a final morning game drive from Buhala Lodge - one last sunrise over the Kruger, one last chance to encounter the extraordinary wildlife that has made these past days so unforgettable. Then it's time to transfer to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport for your domestic flight to Cape Town International - where a completely different but equally spectacular chapter of your South African journey begins. Check into the V&A Hotel Waterfront with Table Mountain rising behind the city and the Atlantic Ocean before you. Tonight, let Cape Town introduce itself.
Day 11 - Golf at Erinvale | Cape Town
Your Cape Town golf begins at Erinvale Golf Club - a Gary Player masterpiece set in the shadow of the Hottentots Holland Mountains in Somerset West, consistently rated among the top courses in South Africa. With sweeping mountain views on every hole, fairways winding through indigenous vegetation and water features, and a course condition that reflects its world-class reputation, Erinvale is a worthy opener to your Cape Town golf chapter. Golf carts are included throughout.
Day 12 - Golf at Pearl Valley | Cape Town
Today you play Pearl Valley Golf Estate - Jack Nicklaus's masterpiece set in the Paarl Valley with the dramatic Du Toitskloof Mountains as a constant backdrop. Designed to flow through wetlands and vineyards, Pearl Valley is a course of extraordinary visual beauty and genuine championship challenge - water features, sweeping fairways, and immaculate greens that reward precision and punish wayward shots. Golf carts are included. Afterwards, the Winelands beckon for a late afternoon exploration before returning to the V&A Waterfront.
Day 13 — Full Day Winelands Tour | Cape Town
Today the clubs rest as you immerse yourself in one of the world's great wine regions. The Cape Winelands - Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, and Paarl - produce some of the southern hemisphere's finest wines, and today's full-day tour takes you through celebrated estates where award-winning Chenin Blancs, Pinotages, and Cabernet Sauvignons are poured against backdrops of vine-covered mountains and 300-year-old Cape Dutch homesteads. It's a day of pure indulgence - exceptional wine, world-class food, and scenery that stops you mid-sentence.
Day 14 - Full Day Cape Point Tour | Cape Town
Your penultimate day is reserved for one of the world's most spectacular day trips - a full-day Cape Point tour to the tip of Africa. Drive through the Cape Peninsula's dramatic mountain fynbos to Cape Point, where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet in a collision of wild water and breathtaking scenery. Visit the Cape of Good Hope, spot Cape mountain zebra, ostriches and baboons in the reserve, and stand at one of the most remote and beautiful places on the planet. Return to the V&A Waterfront for a final evening in Cape Town - make it count.
Day 15 - Departure | Until South Africa Calls You Back
After a final breakfast overlooking the V&A Waterfront with Table Mountain watching over the city one last time, it's time to say goodbye to South Africa. Transfer to Cape Town International Airport with bags full of memories - of fairways carved through the Kruger wilderness, of elephants at the river below your train suite, of sunsets over the Atlantic, and of the warm, expert care of Sandy's Safaris that made every single moment possible. South Africa has a way of pulling people back. We have no doubt you'll return.
